Cedar Key
Come for lunch and spend the afternoon at Cedar Key. This is a quaint little old fishing village type of town where you can fly in for lunch and spend the afternoon wandering the shops and the taking in the island ambiance.
The runway is a bit hidden when you approach from the southeast. I did not notice a wind sock so you have to use the water ripples as your wind gauge. The runway is also 2,300' long with a slightly displaced threshold on 23. BE SURE YOU USE SHORT FIELD TECHNIQUES. There are many skid marks where I am sure visitors have run in to the drink! There is a local "cabby", Judy, who monitors the UNICOM and will come fetch you for $5/head round trip into town. Call early and often on the UNICOM to be sure Judy, and other planes, hear you. Once in town there are many restaurants and shops. Take your pick. We had lunch at Seabreeze - right on the water, good food, reasonably priced. You can ask Judy for a recommendation, as well. |
